Kali Linux MIGHT Be For You

A good thing for new Linux users.

Just a quick talk here about Kali Linux, a security focused distro that might be right for you, if you’re new to Linux.

The only time I use Kali is when there’s some complex security tool in it that I don’t already use and I just want to see if it’s something suitable for a given problem. As a demonstration of how little I do in this area, I was aware of BackTrack as a pentesting distro and mentioned it in the video … but that’s the old name for Kali, now ten years gone.

I’m using it these days as I describe in the video - I’m doing some new things, sampling some new tools, and it’s nice to just have it there ready to run so I can get some hands on and decide if I want to go to the trouble of installing it on an Ubuntu VM.

The shell config drives me to distraction, adding services is much more fiddly than it should be, and I’ve never tried to do network tricks with it like I do with VirtualBox and Ubuntu.

But if you just wanna put tool XYZ to work RIGHT NOW, this might be a good choice for you.
